Carolina Dijkhuizen

11 Mar

Dutch actress Carolina Dijkhuizen was mentioned in my local ad paper, playing in the theater play “The Soul of Motown II”.

I particularly liked her pose, like that of a performer of Soul music. I guess because she is playing a Motown singer that is a good thing.

The drawing was made in 2 hours, using HB pencil on A4 (210 x 297 mm) 120 g/m2 drawing paper. After scanning, I adjusted the levels slightly, to give it a bit more contrast.

That is all.

Libyan Sybil, first attempt

11 Mar

I started this drawing with the background, so I should have a good reference for the hard parts of this drawing, based on a painting by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.

Libyan Sybil, first attempt

Alas, it turned out that I had made a mistake in the dimensions, so the Sybil would never fit in the space I had reserved for her. Either I had to draw her as a dwarf, or I had to start all over.

I cowardly chose for the latter.

Will I do the dwarf version? I don’t know yet. Maybe. First I want to do the “normal” version.

That is all.

Mozes smashing the stone tablets

I have nothing with religion, but the art of the Sistine Chapel is stunning and worth studying, even by a clumsy beginning artist like myself.

I liked this pose, because it shows action, which is always fun to portray.

It’s done with HB pencil on 120 g/m2 drawing paper in two sessions of 60 and 30 minutes.

I know it’s a very rough sketch. I’m just practicing my skills here, so please bear with me.

That is all.
