Drawing Unknown Faces, part 45

14 Apr

This is supposed to be a girl of 10 years old, but it  looks more like a much older girl. Drawing the foreshortening of a head that is looking down is hard if you don’t have an inkling of knowledge about human anatomy.

The shape is interesting, and so is the pose, even though the likeness is way off.

This sketch is based on a photo on the public photo stream of Flickr.

That is all.

Drawing Unknown Faces, part 44

I think one should have at least one drawing or sketch each day that is more or less satisfying. This sketch is supposed to be that sketch.

Well, most things seemed to work out. Only the hairdo wasn’t really good. I used a technical pen (2B lead), because that’s what has lead to more reliable results so far. I guess the wood-enased pencil is another medium than technical pencil, although if you hadn’t experienced both by use, you would think both are so different and distinct.

The sketch took only 30 minutes to complete and is based on a photo I grabbed from the Flickr public photo stream.

I made a little slip of the pen. The drawing was made today, and not in 2007. Sorry for that.

That is all.

Dagnabbit! Now the proportions of the features in the face are much better, did I draw the angle of the head wrong. The head is tilted so much to her left, it’s like she’s trying to get water out of her left ear.

If I were better at drawing, I ‘d have drawn her putting her finger in her ear. But then, if I were better at drawing, I wouldn’t have made this mistake in the first place.

Ah well, it’s somewhat imaginative, this girl. I needed approximately 45 minutes to complete the sketch. It is based on a photo I grabbed from the Flickr public photo stream.

That is all.

You see, the following sketch shows why I need to do 1000 of these sketches of unknown faces. Her nose is slightly too long and her mouth is too low in her face.

I’m getting there, but just not yet. I needed 60 minutes to complete this sketch.
